Grayson County Virginia in the winter

We are Farmers. We are small town people that want to look you in the eye, shake your hand, and know that we have established a relationship we can both count on. Purchasing products from local farms just makes sense. We want you to get to know our farmers. Here are their stories.

Mitchell Family

Gary and Lucas Mitchell Gary Mitchell began purchasing his farm from the family in 1994; the farm has been in his family for 3 generations. All of the Mitchell family members are involved and have ownership. Mary is 13 and is borrowing money to purchase 5 cows for her 4H project. Lucas is 14 and has paid 2 years on a 3 year loan to pay for his 5 cows. Susan, Gary’s wife, enjoys working together with her family on the farm. The Mitchell’s are building a sustainable business and appreciate being able to offer local natural food to the public through Grayson Nautral Foods. Our hopes are that this frarm will remail a productive part of our family for generations to come.

Kirk Family

The Kirk Brothers Farm is operated by Kevin his brother Russ, and their father Steve Kirk. Kevin and Russ grew up on this farm and now have the privilege of working it with their father. A new generation is now growing up on this beautiful land in Grayson County. Kevin and Russ both work off the farm and are working with Grayson Natural to increase opportunities for their farm and future generations.

Four Winds Farm

Danny and Daniel Boyer Our family farm is located in the Spring Valley community of Grayson County. The farm is owned and operated by Danny and Twyla Boyer and their youngest son Daniel. All labor for the operation is supplied by the current household and other children and grandchildren that live nearby. We have been farming our grass based operation for over 30 years. Our farm hosted the first intensive grazing expo for Southwest Virginia in 1988. We conducted an economic case study for a cow-calf operation changing to managed grazing with USDA in 1990. Our farm is currently a demonstration farm for Grassland management and has received the Clean Water Farm award from the New River Soil and Water Conservation District.

River Ridge

Phil and Charlotte Hanes purchased their farm 25 years ago with the vision of creating a model of sustainability. Charlotte has recently employed the Ivey family, Brantley and Whitney, to assist her in building a sustainable enterprise. Phil and Charlotte envision local sustainability and have adopted this management plan over three decades. The Ivey’s have been in Grayson County only a short time, but with to plant roots and raise their family here. Phil, Charlotte, Brantley, and Whitney all believe Grayson Natural foods in instrumental in making their operation sustainable.
